Scottish ales are becoming more prevalent in B.C. but, like I moan about in that primer, there’s still not enough on the session side of things. High on my wish list for 2013 is an export or heavy style ale that can rival Storm’s luscious Highland ale: 5% tops, please.

It’s very malt forward, as it should be, and beyond the initial prickly carbonation it’s full of subtleties. There’s a caramel sweetness, some butterscotch and a distinct breadiness, with lingering hints of a whisky-like roundedness. While not huge in depth, it’s hugely drinkable.
The mouthfeel remains light throughout, and the beer leaves a gentle dryness with a nice rum-essence finish.
